Picture to color by number

Any picture works — a pet, a landscape, a family photo. Upload it, choose how many colors you want, and the page reduces it to flat, numbered blocks with the color key beside them.

1. Choose a photo. It is read into the page by your browser and never sent anywhere.
2. The photo is blurred slightly, then its colors are clustered into the number of colors you picked.
3. Every pixel is switched to the nearest of those colors, and small specks are merged into their neighbors.
4. Connected areas of one color become the blocks. Each block gets a number, and the key on the right says which color that number means.

Photos with a few large, clearly different areas give the cleanest blocks. Very busy or grainy photos produce more small pieces — that is what Smoothing and Block cleanup are for.

The download is one PNG: the numbered artwork on the left and the color key on the right, so the whole sheet prints on a single page. Nothing is cut off and you do not have to assemble two files.

Color count is the main dial. Start at 10. Raise it to 14 or 16 for a detailed photo with many different tones, or drop it to six or eight when the sheet is for young children — fewer colors means bigger blocks and a sheet that gets finished. The Print button opens the same composite image in your print dialog.
